Hunting Tavern Museum

Hunting Tavern Museum, Andes NY

288 Main Street | Andes NY 13731
DAYS: Saturdays, June-October
HOURS: 11am-4pm

Through exhibits and artifacts, the museum showcases the rich history and culture of the area. Named after the Hunting family who operated it as a tavern and hotel, the stagecoach stopped there three times a week, carrying weary travelers in need of respite. Restored over a period of twenty years by the ASHC, the historic structure is significant because of the role it played during the 1840s both as the center of up-rent sentiment and as a turnpike tavern for travelers and settlers. Guests can explore the museum at their own pace and learn about the significance of the Hunting Tavern in shaping the local community. The museum provides a unique opportunity that offers visitors a glimpse into the region's colorful past.

  • Restored c. 1820 Tavern is the centerpiece of our cultural programming, featuring special events and exhibitions.
  • Available for private rentals— featuring a full kitchen and plenty of space - perfect for hosting your next event in a historic setting.

The Hunting Tavern had nothing to do with hunting – a popular misconception!
The building was named after the Hunting family who purchased it in 1838, operating it as both a tavern and hotel.
